Hydration
An endurance athlete’s #1 concern should be hydration. Performance declines with as little as 2-3% dehydration, not to mention the more serious overall health risks beyond that level.

CLIF SHOT® Electrolyte is designed to deliver fluids to your body at an optimal rate as you sweat them out. Electrolyte contains high levels of sodium and tartness, so that it will quench your thirst, and then subtly prime your thirst mechanism. That way, you keep drinking and stay hydrated.

After hard training or racing, you could be moderately dehydrated. Start your recovery with a beverage. By re-hydrating right after activity, your body will come back to life much faster than if you remain dehydrated.

Carbohydrates
Running out of stored carbohydrate (bonking) is the most limiting factor for endurance athletes. Most people store about 1,600 calories worth of carbohydrate in their muscles and liver. That’s not even ½ the calories needed to run a marathon! CLIF SHOT® Electrolyte allows you to take in additional carbohydrates and push back the time when you could potentially run out of your own stored carbohydrates.

The longer and harder you go, the more carbohydrate you burn. If you do not replace this carbohydrate on a regular basis, then your stores may become chronically low. Post-activity, there is a 30-minute window of opportunity for maximum up-take of carbohydrate by your muscles.

Electrolytes
Mineral salts such as sodium chloride, potassium, magnesium, and calcium are known collectively as electrolytes. These electrolytes allow electrical impulses to travel properly throughout your body, permitting normal bodily function. When you sweat, you start to deplete your electrolyte stores.

Recyclable Packaging
The paper label on our drink canisters can be easily peeled off and recycled. The canisters are a #2 HDPE and can be recycled curb-side in most municipalities. Although many of our competitors have similar looking packaging, most use pressure-sensitive labeling technology which makes the paper label virtually impossible to peel off. As a result, their canisters will not be recycled.
