Reviewed by gmoneyQuite frankly I won't train or race without these bad boys. The consistency is perfect compared to other brands. Not too watery...and they don't interfere with my stomach issues. But above all, the taste is what keeps me buying more GU's. Chocolate mint to be exact. Ever had an Andes Mint chocolate? BAM! Same taste!.. But it an ooey gooey form. If you're looking for a caffeine kick, go for the espresso flavor. Now go get on the GU Train so you can win.
Reviewed by ShippyThese little gourmet pockets of delight not only pack some caffeine for added kick, the delivery method works QUICK to get sucrose into your blood and your energy level pumping. In my opinion, and only if I could afford to be so eccentric, I would use the chocolate mint as a tasty topper to my ice cream or other desert recipes. Call me crazy but I can't get enough of the stuff and it's seriously so good that it needs to be explored outside of sports, in the culinary sense of course....
Reviewed by shiftinggearsThese are great fast feul when you need it. Easy to digest and quick to eat. I usually eating one before I head out on a long run or ride. I like using these, as well as, Clif Shot Bloks to mix things up.
Reviewed by connortsaiThese little packets are great for a boost during a competition. I was first introduced to these while doing a marathon a few years ago. Volunteers were handing them out during a re-fueling station and these GU packets sure did help throw me back on track. However, they can become a sticky mess if you don't tear them off the right way (which can get hard to do when you're exhausted). This would be my only complaint when compared to Clif Bar Shot Energy Gels, which have a little cutout that keeps the tab connected to the packet when torn off.
Reviewed by trimeThis is the formula that works for me. I eat one GU right before my start, another GU right after I get on the bike, another GU right after transition 2, and then an extra just in case I need that extra kick. It's hard to tell if you're hungry when all that adrenaline is rushing, but if I'm ever in doubt, I guzzle a bunch of water with one of these and don't worry about it. It's key to drink a lot of water with GU so that you don't start cramping; it's what I do and I've never had any issues. Pros: easy fast fuel. Cons: sticky if you don't tear the tab off correctly (use your teeth and rip that sucker off!)
Reviewed by JorgeSo far to date, these are my favorite gels I have tried. There are a lot of companies making gels these days, but I think these guys got it down. The GU flavors are really good and the formula works in my book. I tried chocolate and it reminded me of eating chocolate pudding when I was a little kid.
