I actually bought the aero drink without buying the bracket, and remember jimmy-rigging the drink to my aerobars with electrical tape and rubber bands for my first race. It looked pretty ghetto and was not easy to put on and off. I'm so glad I have the bracket now so I can pop the drink in and out. If there are any cons (I can't really think of any), it's only that I wish I knew about the bracket when I bought the drink!
